Africa solar power

Africa has significant solar energy potential, holding 60% of the world's best solar resources. However, it currently generates only 3% of its electricity from solar power, with a mere 1% of solar generation capacity2. To meet its energy and climate goals, Africa requires an estimated $190 billion in annual investments from 2026 to 2030, primarily for clean energy2. In 2024, the continent added 2.5GWp of new solar capacity, bringing the total to 19.2GWp3. Additionally, energy storage is becoming increasingly important, with a tenfold increase in installed capacity in 20244. Overall, while Africa has immense potential for solar energy, substantial investment and development are needed to harness it effectively.
